Drawing lions from memory

I've been trying to draw lions from memory on the train. I was thinking of Pauline Baynes images of Narnia. I came up with some rather strange concoctions and it made me think how little I had to fall back on for the lion's face.

Here's one of her pictures of Aslan. I do admire her illustrations.
