Granddad was in the marines. He played clarinet in the military band as the cello's not good for marching.
He must have been terribly unhappy about having to spend MORE time away from home after all that time away from home in the Halle, touring ... which was dreadful for him as he loved his home and his wife Marjorie.
My aunt is called Marjorie, and it's my middle name. I dropped it for my daughter, she's got my name as her middle name - fancy bringing it back. When we get the Indian Runner ducks in the spring maybe I'll call them Sydney and Marjorie.
