Desperado Housewives - New EP to come

Helen and Kath came round today and we recorded our new EP for our new shop on the internet selling our home-baked goods. It was my first attempt to use the home equipment to record guests. And it's pretty good. We did six songs, two each. One with harmonies from all the gals, and one just on our own. I am to mix and burn the CDs, Helen will design a cover and Kath will knit a basic limited edition cover. Get one, they're going to be so cool. I'll post the shop address when they're ready for buying.

Desperado Housewives at the Palatine

The party at the Palatine went down really super well. Razz performed his initiation ceremony without fault and brought a cake. We then sung Happy Birthday to someone because no one there was having a birthday.

Kath and Helen were on top musical form. The contrast and charm of our musical soirees is just so wonderful. The different voices really set each other off and provide a lot of variety beyond that of the normal singer-songwriter evening, which can be quite dull to perform at, let alone go to.

Frog Morris was our first ever token male. He read a poem and we set him a challenge to go off and translate it into another language. He translated it into html. I, sadly, understood it. It was an epic piece, and Razz asked him if he wanted to perform it at Tottenham Chances.

I have an idea that we should create a Desperado Housewives merchandising site, along the lines of the 'micro-independent' record label that I have been impressed with. We can sell limited edition CD-Rs with handmade covers and also strange bits on handicraft, such as knitted things by Kath, or Helen's sketches (signed and personalised?) and my paintings and embroideries (which I haven't done yet but certainly plan to start doing). If nobody buys them, doing the site will be wonderful in itself just to see it there ... lurking on the web in its artistic glory. Maybe we can become a 'Cult'. I think we should at least have a Woman-i-festo ...

Desperado Housewives - Stoke Newington

Helen McCookerybook has done a tremendous illustration for the Desperado Housewives party in Stoke Newington. It's so beautiful. I love the mop, I love the horse I love the whole thing ... beautiful crayoning, lines ... the mixture of domestic housewife and Western imagery ...

Desperado Housewives - we want to be on the radio

We are planning our own Desperado Housewives radio show which we're going to propose to Reel Rebels Radio and Resonance.

Am doing the proposal now. I think it looks and sounds good. Will they like it?

Reel Rebels Radio - National Poetry Day

On National Poetry Day, which is October 7th, there's going to be a special show on the Stoke Newington community radio station, Reel Rebels Radio, presented by myself and Naomi Woddis.

We pre-recorded it this afternoon with the wonderful wonderful Alicia who technically sorted everything out (including the crackle) and myriad guests we had on the show who were all wonderful. Oh it was a great day ... I can't wait to hear it back.

The show is called The Conversational and we're going to do it monthly because it went so well.

Musical guests were the Desperado Housewives (but of course) joined by spoken word artists Dzifa Benson, Raymond Antrobus, Nathan Penlington, Matthew Caley and Zena Edwards.

Lunchtime rehearsals

I've just had the second lunchtime rehearsal with Desperado Housewife Kath Tait who lives just round the corner from my work. What a brilliant break from the office. Best lunchtimes I've had since I started there.

Kath says she has a version of the Owl and the Pussycat that we can do! I love that Lear poem too. Very big fan of Mr Lear.

I'm looking forward to our Desperado Housewives gig, as Helen's going to lend me her cowboy gear - apparently she has loads in the loft.

12 Bar - tastic

Another very lively session at the 12 Bar, Denmark Street! I love playing this venue. It's so photogenic too, I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures my friend Sarah took on her new digital camera. I played in the front bar and Helen McCookeryBook played on the main stage.

Earlier in the afternoon we had a very nice afternoon's rehearsal for a Cowboy themed evening from the Desperado Housewives on 9 September at the Montague Arms in New Cross. I wrote a new song which sounds like an old delta Blues, called 'Old Ned' about a broken down horse who is off to the knackers yard.

Kath and Helen had wonderful cowboy songs already written and we worked out some extra parts to them. I hope I have made enough notes to follow what we talked about. I'm listening to the songs back now and trying to remember what we agreed! Oooops, one's memory is so shakey sometimes! Still, I'm sure it will be alright in the wash.
